Do you have high blood pressure?…
Are you putting on weight for no reason?…
It happened to me, I was shocked……
But I solved my own problem, no pills and no crazy diets, read on to find out how....
On 17th March, 2012, I made up my mind that I would get fit, my blood pressure was creeping up, I was 46 and looking in the mirror I didn't like what I saw......
How had it happened?
What were those flabby bits hanging in there?
I felt horrible.
Crazy diets and pills aren't for me, the side effects of many medications are worse than the problem and can cause a lot of silent damage. I wanted to go natural.
That morning I went swimming, I managed 20 lengths (25 metre pool). The next day I couldn't move, my muscles were killing me. Wow I was unfit.
A year later I tested myself, my goal - 100 lengths in an hour.
No aching muscles the following day. I felt good, very good.
At 40 I had felt fine but....
...at 46 the pounds had slowly crept on. That's how it happens, so slowly you hardly notice.
Weird things started to happen, hot flushes, increased headaches, itchy skin, even feelings of not being able to cope and my energy levels were dropping.......
Sleeping in front of the TV in the evening.... something I thought I would never do.
I could more or less cope with the weird stuff, but looking at my slowly sagging body was not something I could handle and I didn't feel very good about myself.
I was so tired and pretty fed up.
I wanted to look like I did about 25 years ago!
This photo is a rather blurry scanned version of me around 25 and I was fit.
Ok after 2 children and almost another 25 years maybe I'm asking too much. Maybe I should be more realistic.
I wanted my blood pressure to go down.
How many of you ladies at a similar age find yourself in the same situation? Not forgetting you fellas, metabolism slows for male and female as we get older.
The weight may appear in different places but the 'big sag' starts for most of us at some point. Blood pressure can also go up.
With energy levels at an all time low I wondered how I could ever manage to lose the weight I'd gained. I never have been one to over-eat, food wasn't the problem here. I was eating a healthy, balanced diet.
Let's face it, putting on weight can be downright depressing we know we should exercise, most of us know it makes us feel better.
Some Benefits of Exercising
- Increased Energy Levels
- Helps prevent Osteoporosis
- Lowers Blood Pressure
- Gives you the 'Feel Good Factor'
- Reduces Risk of Various Diseases
However what is more disturbing is that even though we know the problem and what we should be doing about it, i.e. exercising more, we come to a major hurdle......
We've got the exercise bike and even put it in a very accessible place, I put mine in the kitchen so I could do a session while waiting for the pasta to cook.......
Ha ha but did I? It became a convenient place for the kids to hang their jackets.... ok I admit I used to hang my handbag on it too!
The exercise bike wasn't the problem it was something else......

(Psssst there's also a photo of what I had turned into, a photo of me before I started exercising again....)
